Taos - New Mexico
Travel Update Summer 2020: Most destinations, sites and parks reopened with limitations. Check the official websites and read our crucial ‘BEST TIME TO GO' and ‘AVOIDING THE CROWDS’ tips:
Most travelers visit Taos between May and September. Summer means high season with more crowds and higher rates. The best sweet spot months with less tourists and pleasant temperatures at the same time are May until early June as well as late September through October.
Avoiding Tourist Crowds
You can avoid the most crowds by visiting early in the morning. Be there at 8 .a.m when Taos Pueblo opens (see below). We highly recommend being there first thing in the morning, especially during the busy high season. Another advantage to visiting early is the great lighting for photography and less heat in the summer.
The weather in Taos is usually pleasant year-round with more than 300 days of sunshine. However, it can get chilly in the winter (average high in January 40°F / 4°C). Monthly weather details including precipitation (you can switch between C and F at the top): Taos New Mexio - Monthly Climate
The Unesco Wold Heritage Site Taos Pueblo is open 7 days a week. Mo-Sa: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Sunday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 pm). Guided tours start at 9 a.m. Please keep in mind that Taos Pueblo is closed for a two month period between February and April. Often people who visit in April are surprised and dissapointed because of the closure. Call Pueblo Tourism first if you to plan to visit in Feb/Mar/April: (+1) (575) 758-1028
Taos is a Indian village that is now full of artists. There are many galleries and art products to look at and purchase. The city is very interesting and the near by original Pueblo Village is also very interesting. Many famous artists lived in Taos.
