HIGHLIGHTS / TOURIST CROWDS: If you like religious events: Visit during Maha Shivaratri Hindu festival (February or March each year, check dates via google) or during Shravan, the holiest month, in July/August. However, it's very crowded during these times. If you'd like to avoid crowds visit from September to November: Great weather, quieter and also the best months for trekking in Nepal

The temple is open for visitors year round.

Where and Tips

Shree Pashupatinath Temple, Pashupati Nath Road, Kathmandu 44621, Nepal
Life and death in Hinduism... A great place, the ghats of Kathmandu, to be confronted with our Western culture where death and mourning are more private matters. Here there is a constant stream of families coming for the fumeral of their relatives. Others are here just to pray, to contemplate or to get advice from the Hindu priests. Holy men are among the crowd.

Great spot! Makes you think about life... Me at least...

Hi Martin, yes it does certainly. In their culture it's an obvious way as a fumeral, for us Westeners it' s quite different.
