Review and Tips

Hike crisscrosses beautiful Galatea Creek up to Lillian Lake where you can camp or just stop for lunch. The good hiker should hike up to the two Galatea Lakes as the views and the solitude are well worth the effort. 17 km round trip with total elevation gain of 870 m.

Is it allowed to camp or do you need a permit? Is this trail well marked?

@Micha: You need a backcountry permit to camp. Short but really useful overview here: http://www.albertaparks.ca/spray...

Regarding 'when to go': Galatea Creek trail is closed between April 1st and late June to allow the trail to dry.

@Micha: Trail is very well marked and is very popular both in the summer and winter. Campground was damaged during the big flood a few years ago, but I think you can still camp there. In addition, there is a very nice compostable toilet at the campsite, which is always a bonus. The website Hiker1 provided above is a good starting point for exploring the trails in the region.
