Felsenweg - Rocktrail
Travel Update Summer 2020: Most destinations, sites and parks reopened with limitations. Check the official websites and read our crucial ‘BEST TIME TO GO' and ‘AVOIDING THE CROWDS’ tips:
Usually from March to November. However, one highlight are the two Kneipp basins for water-treading. To enjoy these higher temperatures are recommended: May until September.
There are 111 hiking trails in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate which are called "Traumschleifen"; that means a dream of circular hiking trails. These trails are perfectly marked with the information of the next intermediate hiking target, the distance you've already hiked, how long you still have to walk and the next highlight on your trail. The trails are abundant in variety and always even better than expected.
The trail is 14 km long, up and downhill in elevation 468 meters and takes 4-5 hours. Many bench seats are provided for a break. The Rocktrail leads to the Devils Rock and the Bear Rock both are geological specific and habitat for special plants and small reptiles. You walk through two stream valleys along forest paths, meadows with scattered fruit trees, an awesome Celtic cult place in a beech forest probably with human sacrifice. Our highlight was the second Kneipp basin. The first one is at the beginning of the trail and the second one after half of the route. The fresh water from a stream was incredibly cold.
