When Is the Best Time

Buachaille Etive Beag is located in the highlands close to Glencoe. It is a great alternative to avoid masses of hikers. The best time for hiking in Scotland is usually from mid-April to September. However, each season is different and can be awesome. It's all weather depending. In winter the summits are covered in snow.

For detailed weather and crowds information check out my article from Stac Pollaidh one of the Assynt Hills.

Buachaille Etive Beag is located an hour drive north of Oban. It is an easy track steep at times. Buachaille Etive Beag is a ridge connecting two Munros - Stob Dubh and Stob Coire Raineach. The walk starts in the parking lot on the A82 road in Glencoe valley. There are no signs, so you have to stick to the path. The path is in good condition and leads to the col. From the col, you can go to the left side to Stob Coire Raineach and then to the right to Stob Dubh. When you arrive on the summit, soak in the spectacular scenery of the surrounding mountains. If the visibility is good, you can see Buachaille Etive Mor, Bidean Nam Bian, and also the ridge of Aonach Eagach, the Mamores, and Ben Nevis. You can do the whole walk in less than 6 hours.
