The Race Rocks Lighthouse is the second oldest lighthouse beside Fisgard Lighthouse which was finalized only 6 weeks before in 1860. It was in operation from December 26th, 1860 until 1997.
You may pass the Race Rocks Ecologic Reserve during a whale watching tour. If the sea is calm and it's sunny, you will be able to spot marine mammals.
If you are kayaking and experienced in open sea kayaking, you can plan a tour from Pedder Bay Marina. To cross the one nautical mile passage over to Race Rocks should only be attempted by experienced paddlers. You need to have the necessary skills to handle the potentially hazardous currents and waves that can be experienced in this area. Therefore checking the weather forecast and the currents for Race Passage is essential.
Make sure you know the guidelines published for accessing or approaching the Ecologic reserve as at Race Rocks the aim is to restrict any activity which causes birds and mammals disturbance. It's recommended to not approach closer than 100 meters to any marine mammal, including those on the rocks.
Although fog can appear at any time at Race Rocks, it is more likely in August and September. During these months you will be faced with strong winds >25 mph. Precipitation Is on average per year between 300 and 500 mm and only the summer months are relatively dry.
Helgoland (English: Heligoland) is Germany's only offshore island and a perfect place to relax and recover. After the day tourist have gone (by 4 pm) the island falls asleep.
Helgoland is a fantastic year-round destination with stunning wildlife to view. However, there are some very special months:
During the bird migrations in spring and fall it turns into a birdwatcher’s paradise with an average of 250 bird species. Mid-June until early-July for about 2 weeks: The event is amazing and called ‘Lumensprung’. In the late afternoon the adult guillemot are attracting their youngsters to jump into the ocean from a 40m+ height. The exact time in June can be predicted each year from April on. November/December until January: Horsehead Seals give birth to their young, which is just spectacular: Heligoland Seals
Stay past 4 PM / overnight. Even during summer it thins out after 4 PM as the crowds of daytime visitors are gone. This way you can experience the real magic of this beautiful island. Stay at least 2-3 days and book a hotel or a B&B.
The weather is influenced by the Gulf Stream. Bright, not too hot summers and mild winters. In November/December it’s actually the warmest place in Germany. However, in some winters there is even a chance of snow. The quieter months in terms of tourist crowds are November/December until April.
Faro di Capio Grecale is a lighthouse on the solitary island of Lampedusa. The lighthouse itself was built in 1855 and since then served as a navigation point in local waters.
The tourist season on Lampedusa starts in the beginning of June and ends in September. During this time, the island is a bit crowded. From my experience, it is best to visit the lighthouse early in the morning or in the evening. During this time, you can have the place just for yourself.
Turtle Islands National Park consist of three islands; Pulau Gulisan, Pulau Bakkungaan and Pulau Selingaan.
The green turtles and the hawksbill turtles lay their eggs throughout the year, but the best time to head there is between July and September when the sea is calmer.
It is tropical hot and humid year-round. A little cooler at the rainy season from November to February/March. Temps are between 27°-32° C / 80°-90° F the whole year. The dry season last from April to September. Anyway, it can rain at any time of the year. Most rainfall during December and January roads can be impassable.
- Shoulder season: March until May/June and September, October. lower prices, less crowded, weather almost fine.
- Peak season: June, July and August with high season prices, very crowded, almost perfect weather conditions.
Only guided tours are allowed to the beach from evening until next morning 6 a.m. to protect the turtles. Get up early and visit the beach sharp at 6 a.m. If you are lucky you may see a turtle moving from the beach back into the sea. This is truly a unique experience.
Havelock island is a slice of paradise located in the Andaman & Nicobar archipelago on the Bay of Bengal. It is at the junction of the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean and the Andaman Sea.
October to March is the best time to visit.
Monsoon season from June to September. There are rains throughout the year and very torrential ones too but it has lots of sunshine as well. The climate is equatorial - hot & humid. Avoid too much fish or meat in that kind of weather.
Gets crowded at Indian school holidays in December and January.
