First of all, Lighthouses are an attraction. Most of them are not any longer in use. They can be visited from outside only, occasionally from inside. Some of the Lighthouses have a dramatic location, some a touching history and others are simply beautiful.

Victoria has mild winters and receives the lowest annual rainfall on the west coast. Although Winters are mild, you can expect a certain amount of rain and fog. Summer temperature could reach up to 30°C, and it's the driest season. Because of the sub-Mediterranean climate, Victoria is sometimes named "The Garden City". You could find even rare plants in Canada like palms and eucalyptus. In general, the city enjoys plenty of sunshine all year around.

You may pass the Race Rocks Ecologic Reserve during a whale watching tour. If the sea is calm and it's sunny, you will be able to spot marine mammals.

If you are kayaking and experienced in open sea kayaking, you can plan a tour from Pedder Bay Marina. To cross the one nautical mile passage over to Race Rocks should only be attempted by experienced paddlers. You need to have the necessary skills to handle the potentially hazardous currents and waves that can be experienced in this area. Therefore checking the weather forecast and the currents for Race Passage is essential.

Make sure you know the guidelines published for accessing or approaching the Ecologic reserve as at Race Rocks the aim is to restrict any activity which causes birds and mammals disturbance. It's recommended to not approach closer than 100 meters to any marine mammal, including those on the rocks.

Although fog can appear at any time at Race Rocks, it is more likely in August and September. During these months you will be faced with strong winds >25 mph. Precipitation Is on average per year between 300 and 500 mm and only the summer months are relatively dry.

Consider the tide as walking on the beach is much easier at low tide. At high tide, you must use the path with many larger rocks at the upper part of the shoreline. You can visit the lighthouse all day long but In the afternoon the light is best to take pictures.

Neist Point is a very very popular place. During the tourist season it is crowded almost all the time. If you do not want to go in spring/autumn or winter but you want to avoid crowds you have to get up early in the morning. The sunsets are beautiful here so expect a lot of photographers in the evenings. There is a chance to see whales during the summer months.

The tourist season on Lampedusa starts in the beginning of June and ends in September. During this time, the island is a bit crowded. From my experience, it is best to visit the lighthouse early in the morning or in the evening. During this time, you can have the place just for yourself.
