The via ferrata has its origins in the nineteenth century. However, it is strongly associated with the First World War, when many of them were built in the Dolomite mountain region to aid the movement of the troops.
From June to September
From June to September, it is better to start early in the morning to avoid crowds in summertime
Rio Sallagoni is one of the most spectacular via ferratas leading along a stream. The best time for this adventure are the warmer months from April to October. Rain occurs throughout the year. Therefore, check the weather conditions and water level the day before. The via ferrata is easily accessible and very popular. Also, guided climbing tours are offered for Rio Sallagoni. To avoid the crowds here climb either in the morning or evening.
Due to snow and ice in higher elevation, the via ferrata is accessible from June to October only. It's cold in the morning during September and October. It's more pleasant if you start at midday clockwise to enjoy the warmth of the sun while climbing. It's busier here during summer in July and August, but rarely crowded.
Important to Know
Close to the end is a tyrolienne - zip wire traverse. You can circumvent it nowadays or you lend the equipment in an outdoor shop before.
